Original painting based on the painting expedition to the Yukon. The season changes in the late August, turning the land into harmonies of warm bright orange and red. Over the years I became fascinated with images of burned forest, both from esthetic and ecological point of view. The constant process
of death and rebirth is a common tread in my work, which captures the constant evolution of our environment. Even so the Yukon still remains mainly untouched wilderness, the impact of climate change is becoming highly visible and felt. The forest fires start earlier each year, burning longer and consuming large tracks of wilderness. lt was my intention for this painting to capture a classic Yukon alpine vista of burned spruce with young arctic willow sprouting from below. It is evident that in my generation, major environmental changes will have a dramatic impact on the Yukon from
disappear glaciers to raging forest fires. lt is always my desire to record those areas before they changed forever.
