Original painting 72” x 48” oil on canvas - SOLD

Original painting depicts an ancient Sitka spruce in the Carmanah Valley on Vancouver Island. Such trees are constantly under treat of being logged and never ending battles between environmental groups and business industry are being fought in British Columbia for last 40 years. Even so many new parts of the province have been set aside for protection but the logging and mining industry are always pushing and opening more and more virgin land. Seeing hundreds of logging trucks with ancient trees on our roads truly brings tears to my eyes, knowing that part of our planet is being destroyed and changed forever. My painting pays my humble homage to those cathedrals of nature in hope of rising public’s environmental conciseness of the public.

The area where I live for part of the year is southern coastal British Columbia. It is a region of coastlines, jagged mountains and tempered rain forests. It is those forests and ocean that provide the environment with its vital life source. The old growth forest is a source of biodiversity ranging from interconnected tree top canopies to constant rebirth and decay on the forest floor. This forest is home for many species of trees including Red Cedar, Sitka spruce, Hemlock and Douglas fur that can live in excess of 1000 years. It is truly a natures cathedral that should venerated and preserved at all cost.
