Orginal painting is based painting expedition along North Canol Road in eastern Yukon. This scene captures boreal forest stretching endlessly into the horizon. It depicts the area’s ecological transition from boreal forest, to the arctic tundra then on to majestic mountains and glaciers of Mackenzie Range. The painting’s foreground shows black spruce, most common and iconic of trees in the Canadian North. When the tudra with is permafrost shifts, trees die providing necessary nutrition for next generation of forest. As the landscapes’ colour change and fade, first snowfalls arrive promoting hibernation in the animal kingdom. It is also a time for me to head south reflecting on one more journey in to the Land of the Midnight Sun.
